What You Can Do

There are different actions one can take to make a difference in this world. A person can do as little as writing a letter to his or her state official. This way the representative can be aware of what is going on in the State that he is not yet aware of or it is a way telling the state official how you fed about something he or she may be aware of. Don’t be discouraged, the letter will be read since the representative is risking re-election. Letters don't necessarily have to be written to state officials. They can also be written to the sand mining operations. This can allow the operators of the sand mining companies to know that local civilians are concerned about their natural resources such as water. By taking this action sand miners might begin changing their ways of how they run their operation. If this does not work then a boycott can be established against anything that uses sand products or the knowledge can be spread to state officials.

You can organize a group who is against sand mining because of the problems that this type of plant produces. The group can set up events that will talk about the different operations that are active around the surrounding areas. This group will go around spreading what is not known by local civilians about these operations; these basic facts that civilians are unaware of because local civilians cannot see what is affecting the water. Civilians also don't have direct proof of what is causing fish to die or algae to bloom. They might have an idea that is has to do with a company but don't know where it directly comes from. So this is why local citizen's groups are good, because they can notify the city to begin testing water and setting regulations.
