Spanish Curriculum

Spanish Department: Dave Bartholome, Martha Dilworth, Mily Perez

The purpose of language study is to create an atmosphere of challenge, cooperation and enjoyment for the students. The Spanish curriculum is designed to develop each student’s level of achievement in basic skills in Spanish, with special emphasis on communication. The students reinforce any pre-existing grammatical and structural skills while developing a realistic, up-to-date awareness of the Hispanic Culture.  Students begin their study of Spanish with weekly or semi-weekly classes. Over the course of three years of high school Spanish, students build vocabulary skills, establish their control of syntax, and strenghthen their ability to communicate about their daily lives in Spanish.  Advanced students will be challenged to overcome local colloquialisms and master proper sentence structure and grammar with an end-goal of attaining college credit through our rigorous AP Spanish program.
